Do Cubscouts/boyscouts need boosters?

Holy cow!
Is there something about this organization that makes the kids immune from injuries in the car? Whew!

I just saw a meeting get out. I don't know if it was cub or boy scouts. But the kids were not big and none were in any seat or booster. They are all carpooling. Riding in front, leaning over in addition. Maybe they were 8, but they CLEARLY were not even close to 5 stepping.

Why isn't the Illinois law booster to age 10? It would seriously help.

It may be different in the US, but the ages here (Canada) are
CUB scouts : 8 - 10 yrs old
Scouts : 11 - 14

And LEGALLY (not safely, just legally) as of their 8th birthday, children are not required to ride in a booster.

ugh!!

i saw a bit of this at cub scout camp this summer....6/7 year olds piling out of minivans, no booster in sight, and some going home in the front seat! this is why i insisted on driving my son myself all 4 days of scout camp, or having grandma do!

cub scouts as far as IL (based on my sons) is 1st-5th grade so 6-10/11 years. and they should all have dark blue shirts. boy scouts have tan shirts and are 6th grade plus.

so IMHO, they should almost all have boosters and NONE should be in the front seats.

Okay, in the US - CUB Scouts are from 7 to 10 years old.

So, depending on the law in your state, it may well be *LEGAL* to have the boys in nothing but the vehicles seat belt.

5-stepping is smart and safe, but it is, unfortunately, not law except in states where there is a 'proper use' clause about seatbelts.

Cub scouts is open to rising first graders, so age 6 - fifth grade, so maybe 11. Cub scouts should "bridge" (move up) to boy scouts at the end of February of their fifth grade year, here in the US.

I am a cub scout leader. Our law is 8 years. I might see some of the 6 and 7 year olds is no back boosters. The cub master last year told my then 7 year old that he didn't need his car seat and could ride in the front now. Ds set him straight, lol.

It is very common to see kids 2 and older standing in the front seat, no car seat or seat belt.

Now at cub scout day camp this year, I was amazed to see all the no back boosters laying around the kids stuff.Less thrilled that they were getting filthy and scuffed in the gravel, but hey, the kids actually had boosters!
