legroom and headrest questions

We are shopping for a used car. Commuter car for dh, but will haul a kid or two sometimes. Prob a 2008-2009 civic, corolla or elantra. Has anyone compared these and know which has a roomier backseat, or are they pretty much the same? I hadn't even thought about it until we drove an 11 mazda3 yest and noticed it had NO legroom at all. Also, do all these cars have three heardrests and three lap/shoulder belts for an 08+? We are going to keep this next car as long as it lasts- our kids are 5, 7 and 10 already, which tempts me to look at accords or camrys for a little more space, but then our gas mileage won't be as good.
