MA harness for FPSVD?

Can I and/or (will they "let me") order an MA harness for a FPSVD? Surely, it's the same harness?

Is it worth the $ for an FPSVD that has one year left on it?

Thanks!

What's up with the harness on the seat you've got (or whoever has).

I don't think they'll let you swap MA harness in there. I don't think they admit that they're the "Same", lol.

(I have two FPSVD's, and they're just about outgrown. for my SIX year old. lol)

Well, I was gonna let my other sil use it for the year that's left on it...I got mixed up though. It's the harness adjuster that probably needs replaced. :) I'm comfortable using it as is--even though the harness adjuster strap is dirty. I don't really think it's unsafe. It's not fraying--it's just pretty dirty. I have used it a few times since my other sil returned it to me, and I had to seriously clean it out. I know others thought I should replace the harness at the time, but I know my sil--it never got cleaned w/anything. She couldn't remember ever taking it out of the car, and she must not have, b/c of the filth that was in the bottom of it! She said if she did "clean" it, she just would have taken it out and hosed the whole thing off in the drive way, w/the cover still on, etc. LOL She definitely NEVER did that! Trust me. I'm not sure she even knew how to get the covers off to put them in the washer.

The harness adjuster strap had milk or something on it that dripped down through the seat before, but it's not rotting or frayed or anything like that. It just looks dirty. Surely, carseats are meant to withstand this type of dirt--b/c unfortunately, most parents don't even notice what's under there. ugh

ETA: Ah...on second look and third look...I think I'm overreacting. It's fine, just a smidge dirty. I'm just not used to seats that are actually dirty. The Regent a friend passed us had all kinds of grime down next to the bottom of the harness, too. Surely, manufacturers account for this. I really pulled the strap out so I could see the whole thing again.

As for your 6 yr old outgrowing--well, my oldest outgrew this last year at 4.5...and my soon to be 3 yr old probably wouldn't make it to 3.5 in it. LOL We have plenty of seats around here now anyways. LOL

It's the harness they send out if you need a replacement for your FP, actually. So if you need one, call and ask for the FP one, and they'll send you an MA harness, anyway.

So, Julie, I guess my main question is: Are dirty harness straps or adjuster straps unsafe? (Not frayed, not "worn", just a bit dirty--like dried on milk).

I know my old Decathlon straps were trashed according to Britax--they actually had gotten moldy and were obviously unsafe (the mold/mildew really damaged the straps).

Thanks!

I think plain 'dirty' is fine, as long as you can tell they aren't super worn or eaten up/crispy/holey/shredded/etc. They do these pretty extensive tests in their factory to make sure funky straps still hold up ok in crashes. :)

Thank you! I think they are/were fine to use then. I just couldn't imagine that the average messy seat would no longer be safe--some of my friends seats are pretty filthy. LOL

The dirt wiped off pretty easily w/a wet rag and mild soap before, but I did get them fairly wet w/a quick clean water rinse (not submerged). Then, I squeezed them in a towel to get the excess off and hung them to dry. They were dry in no time (a few hours at the most). I do remember that they had quite a bit of yuck come off w/the "rinse".
