I have a friend who has a baby that is 2 days older than my DD and we were hanging out the other day and as she was leaving I think my heart stopped when I saw her car seat situation. She had her DD in a cosco bucket that was a disaster and no base installed and I watched her buckle the seat in and not use the lock offs and I was so upset. I love them.. they are really dear friends.. I immediately said "Whoa! what happened to your seat?!?!" it was filthy, the straps were SO loose and twisted beyond belief -- twisted so much she couldn't tighten it at all! She said "well DH took it apart because DD got sick in it and then left us home with it all apart and I did my best to put it back together." I said "oh well if you have time I can fix it?" She said "well its been a month, we are looking for a new seat anyway."
A MONTH!!!!!!! I invited her over again after work the next day (which was last night) and I had a brand new never used scenera in my DDs closet.
While she was over I was talking to her about what kind of seat she was looking into getting and she said it would be a little while due to lack of funds. I couldn't bear to see them drive away again under those conditions.
I told her about my brand new spare... I said "lets just try it in your car and see if your DD likes it?!" she hesitated but eventually let me! I got a rock solid RF belt install in her Explorer with a pool noodle after putting her DD in it in my living room to get the straps perfect. I was SO relieved to see them drive away with her kiddo properly strapped in! I told her she could have it and it was $35 if she wanted to give it to me when she got more $$ that's fine and if not it's whatever!! (I wanted to get a cowmoo blvd for our spare anyway!) hahaha I am just SOOO happy that she let me put it in there and she agreed to use it! She's one of those gets embarrassed when people do nice things for her so she refuses help kind of people... I'm soo thankful it worked out!!!
