Removing Monterey Cover?

I'm trying to take the cover off the Monterey so I can clean it. I'm able to take the elastic fasteners off easily. However, I can't get the other plastic fasteners to come off. They look like they would snap off, but it's not coming off easily. I don't want to do anything to break the covers so I'm not sure how hard to pull or even how these pieces will come off.

Help please?

They come off, but it's a pain in the butt. They're actually like little pegs. I have to use a butter knife and wiggle the heck out of them and eventually they pop off.

My pegs always went in easily. They were always a pain to remove though. I have to wash my monterey cover soon and am dreading getting those pegs out. I haven't broken a peg yet so they must be pretty strong.
