Girls' clothing question--6x or 7?

DD is currently in a size 6 but things are getting smaller on her... do you usually go from a 6 to a 6x or a 6 to a 7?? What do you find is the difference? (And why the heck is there this "transition size" only once??)

Olivia mostly went to a 6X. Depends on the brand really. And now it's worse...some 8s are just right but she is really not going to fit a 10!! I buy school clothes big because we wear "winter" clothes for 9 months here.

it depends on the style and fit... Damian could never wear 6x... he went from 6 slims to 7 slims (and do you know how happy I was when adjustable waist pants hit... that child was so skinny and his brother so chunky that for so long they wore the same waist size and I was practically a tailor)

Ruthie wore more 6x than 6 when it came to shirts... they were a tad longer... or 6/7 shirts when I could find them...

she couldn't wear ANYTHING labeled 5/6... it always ran a bit small.

she's got a long torso and shorter legs, though... so where 6x was needed for shirts, 6x pants were bad, unless they were a brand that ran short in the legs... then that usually meant they had more room in the booty... also needed.

basically, a 6x can fit the same as a 6, slightly bigger, or just as big as a 7... so it's roulette.

It depended on the brand. We mostly did 6x and 7's at the same time. The 7 pants were longer, and my DD is very leggy, so noticed a difference in length. Waist wasn't an issue. It was this age, last fall, when I took her with me shopping for the first time for her clothes. She really cared about how they looked, and the sizes varied from store to store enough that I couldn't assume that the 7's at one store would fit because the 7's at another did. Oh, and don't get me started on the XS, S, M, L sizing.. 5/6 is WAY smaller than 7/8!

OK so now that it's getting cooler, she put on her size 6 jeans yesterday and they're too short. I went to Kohl's because those are the only jeans she wears (Jumping Beans--I have NO idea what I'm going to do once she outgrows their sizing), and got her a 6x which fit her perfectly. For leggings I went to Target and bought some 6/6Xs and some 7/8s to see which fit I like better. The 6/6Xs were long enough and fit her waist well. The 7/8s fit her in the waist well, were a little long (but not TOO long), but between the crotch and the waist it's very baggy, if that makes sense. So we'll keep them all and just wait a bit for her to grow into the 7/8s.
