question about new booster rider

DD just hit 6 and can now legally ride in a booster in our state (if I want or need her to). She's 38 lbs on the scale, so still not 40 fully clothed. I have a TB and Vivo for her whenever we're ready, but she still seems to have nearly 2 inches of harness height in her TF!

I've seen the suggestion about starting out with short drives around town. That makes sense to me. My dilemma is that most of our short trips around town, still involve a drive on the interstate. It's not a congested area by any means, but it is still the interstate.

Should I truly limit it to really short drives right around here, or would the interstate be OK (I wouldn't on her first ride though!). Still trying to work up the gumption to even put a booster in the car, lol.

It's hard at first to be comfortable with it, but within a little while it gets easier.

My DS3 (age 5, 39lbs without the cast) broke his elbow a couple weeks ago and has a cast up to his shoulder. I boostered him because he didn't want me messing with his sling to get the harness on.

At first it was like yikes! but now I'm way more comfortable with it. He's going back to the harness seat soon (sling is off and he's fine with moving the cast around now that it's healed a bit). When I moved DS2 to a booster full-time at 6.5 and about 45lbs his whole body just looked more mature. His shoulders were less rounded and he had more of a big kid look to him. DS3 isn't quite there yet, so I'm hoping to go a while longer in a harness yet, but the booster use over the last couple weeks wasn't bad.
