Am I weird in thinking that this is weird?

I would like to see what the actual camera looks like. I would just be nervous about it being another object that would fly at your baby's head in an accident. In theory it's a good idea, but I don't think they are giving enough pictures.

This part makes me think it is a hard plastic case for the camera:
The AutoNanny uses a small black and white video babycam that is attached to an articulating arm which offers the ability to aim the baby camera when placing your child in his or her seat. The babycam and arm detach quickly from the seat when necessary by sliding the arm out of the permanently attached base.

I worry about attaching anything hard to the seat, as it sounds like this is.

What bothers me is the idea that you'd be watching your baby on a monitor screen, rather than watching the road  . Well, maybe not every second, as in glued to the screen or something, but do we really need any more distractions? I can see the possibilities of this being a good thing for someone who has a baby with seizures or other problems that require a visual, but again, like you both already mentioned, the projectile problem comes into play, too. Hmmm  .

Wow! I had no idea those existed! The one time I had a mirror for DD I realized I was looking at it way too often to be safe. It was in my mom's car and I'm glad I don't have one!

I never really understood the point of video cameras in a baby's room until now. DD is spending her first night in her big girl bed and I really want one to be able to make sure she doesn't get up and wander!

I think you have reached a new level of overprotectiveness when you have to have a camera while you're in the car with your kid to watch them. If I'm in the car I certainly don't want to hear or see my kids and I"m lucky if they don't kill each other back there.

I was pretty certain that this was a gadget for geek Dad's who were gadget freaks. At least as a guy, that was my take on it.

For the average parent, it's probably overkill. But for special needs situations, or sibling rivalry situations, I can definately see where it would have it's advantages, especially when the parent is panicing because they cannot see their rear-facing child and want to turn them FF.
