What's with this new EB seat? (Pics)

What crazy at Dorel designed this thing, and what drunk looked at it and said, "produce it"?

DS fits in it (of course) and has about a half inch in the 4th slot. Not sure if you can see it with him in it, but the 4th slot is right at the bottom on the headrest. 2nd pic is empty seat, my finger pointing at the 4th slot, headrest all the way up.

Here's the problem. I haven't moved the headrest in this next pic, HOWEVER, my finger is pressing on the fifth harness slot. How the HECK am I supposed to thread that, and how safe is it for the headrest to be over the slot?

The manual even says that the "headrest may cover some harness slots"???

DS would fit RF if he were under 40lb. Excuse all the hair, he's growing it out. He said it made his neck hurt, which I understand.

7mth old in the seat. The headrest is still all the way up. When in the proper position, if pushed his head forward, but I think that would have easily been fixed if I had put the body pillows back in.

Wow. I don't understand how that can be safe with the harness under the headrest.

It looks just dreadful in the pic on the box. It kind of reminds me of the Enspira ... something about the shape of the headrest.

So basically, between this and the Rumi, I'm thinking someone added crack to the Dorel water.

There was a big flood when we visited Columbus two years ago, so I am willing to bet something did get into the water

The possible mis-use from such an odd design is just astounding. Whoever thought the seat was designed well needs to be demoted

When I saw this the other day I was just sure that headrest came up a bit more and low and behold no. it didn't. I was at a total loss and stood in the car seat aisle looking confused for a bit. I really want to meet the winners who came up with this one

maybe (speculating) because it's fabric and padding... it doesn't appear that there's anything hard there that would interfere with the harness...

but I also think it's cause they were too lazy to make the headrest go a little taller.

STILL... it obviously pushes heads forward... I don't like it.

what is the measurement on the top slots? the price point?

(and I agree... LOTS of crack in the water over at Dorel)

Back from another target run. DS is more than a half inch from the fourth slots. I'd guess top slots to be no less than 17". His torso is 14". Price is $129

I finally realized what this seat looks like to me... the ENSPIRA - but with a thinner, softer headrest... that thing was horrid for pushing the head forward, too...

At least this one has higher top slots, but I just don't see kids on the bigger side being comfortable in it... with the infant inserts, babies will be fine... but bigger rearfacers and then forward facing kids are gonna end up with neck cramps.

This is why I still can't complain too bad about some SLIGHT pushing forward in the Nauti... it's just nothing compared to this.

I'm in agreement with Kat, I can't see there being any safety risk at all with the harness being under the headrest - you can see that the padding is very soft just by the finger pressing against it towards the 5th slot.

My biggest concern is that it could create some misuse problems if people have difficulty threading the harness underneath the headrest

I try to not speculate on any inherent risks in a design without being privy to testing data or methods. Unless you know for sure that there is something dangerous about a seat, then it's not accurate to speculate about risk and create potential fear and worry for parents who may be using the seat. Talking about comfort, likes, dislikes is one thing, but I'd be very cautious when it comes to singling out a single aspect of a seat when we truly have no idea if it causes a problem or not. Some users of the Radian XT have been told that it's ok to have the headrest covering the harness slots, and that headrest is certainly more substantial than the one for this seat...

As for whether it's safe or not, I don't know. But it's not unheard of to have a headrest covering the harness slots at any rate and the very fact that the manual for this seat addresses it makes me think that they're very aware of it and don't have any concerns. :shrug-shoulders:

I do wonder what the headrest would be like for a kid when installed. There seems to be a trend lately for adjustable headrests that lead to the kid's head coming forward. I know they often look worse in store than they do in vehicle, but it still makes me wonder if there's a reason that a few manufacturers have the headrests that push the head forward to varying degrees.

I just posted some pics of my 1 year old in that seat in another thread and I found the straps to be mind bogglingly close together. They were literally right on his neck. It was horrible.

I looked at the pics again, and the lowest slots seem supper close. But they look like they get wider on higher slots. Can anyone who has seen the sea confirm that? If they didn't start out too close together, it's a neat idea...
