So sad!

As you may know Joplin had a tornado. Insurance checks are starting to come in as I see LOTS of new vehicles in town. Went to walmart today to pick up some stuff and pull in next to a 2 door regular pickup. I notice a family of four walking up. One baby a toddler and Mom/dad. I was wondering how they were all going to fit and if the baby was going to be a lap baby. So I get out of my car and noticed middle of cab is graco infant seat and a scenera. Both installed with seatbelts. So I wonder where one of the parents is going to sit. So I just piddle around. Mom got into the back of the truck and sat down. I asked her if this was how she always rides and she said the tornado got their other 4 door car and they are doing the best they can. I was so sad for that momma. She said she is fighting with insurance over her car and that they are sending a check this week somtime.

Here is a family trying to do the right thing in a terrible circumstance. I hope they settle with insurance quickly so Mom can ride as safely as the kids!

Wow...

I travelled through Joplin just a couple days ago and the devastation brought me to tears.

What a great mama in a terrible situation.

That is sad, but I am glad she was doing what she could to keep the kids safe. I hate driving in Joplin now. The devastation is bad enough, but the traffic seems so much worse all over Joplin. Debris that falls out of FEMA trucks is enough to cause serious accidents.
I donated a couple of car seats right after the tornado to the Red Cross at MSSU. But when I went in the building to take all the stuff we were donating I saw so many expired seats in there and it made me sad.

I have donated two car seats through families I heard about on 1310 talk radio.

I hardly leave the house anymore. I live just 6 blocks from where the storm started over near shiffenedecker. If my route takes me near damage I just dont go. I hate seeing Joplin like this. So walmart and Kum and Go and Walgreens are my only leave the house moments

You are right about the FEMA trucks though. The one time I was going down 20th they have the right hand side of the road for fema trucks now. I was about to turn on to my street and a fema truck lost a bunch of its load and even though I was in the left hand side of the road a peice of debrie hit my window. It cracked it but not sure insurance would consider it tornado damage
