Crash database?

The previous post got me thinking...

Is there any kind of database that gives information about crashes and how the kids were restrained, what seats, injuries, fatalities, etc?

Locally we had two 5-year-olds killed and it brings up questions.
I would like to see patterns or trends and study the data out there. Thanks!

It's also possible to apply skyline queries and do some complex analysis, my husband says. He's not that into carseats but he would enjoy that, I bet.

FARS

I haven't poked around in it, I just know that it exists, and I believe it has the information you're looking for.

One of its limitations is that the data is provided by first responders, who were probably more interested in managing life-threatening injuries than taking notes. Also, many people get the terms wrong. What we would call a forward facing harness seat, a lot of people call a "booster," meaning a harness booster or a combination seat. It could even be a FF convertible with an older child and get called a booster.

Just be aware that you really have to dig through the FARS data and kind of extrapolate bits and pieces and cross-reference things to try to piece together what happened. (Unless I've done something wrong in the past.)
