DS1 (8 1/2 years old, 51", 67 lbs) has little room left to grow in his Monterey, which is in DH's truck and used infrequently. So I took the back off and said he could ride in the backless. He can't ride in the center anymore because there's no headrest in that position. So I moved him outboard (DD is now center in her Monterey and DS2 outboard RF RN).
The truck has side curtain airbags. He has an awesome, full coverage headrest. He's far enough away from the front seat. The truck has great safety ratings. He sits properly. It's a good fit. But it's outboard. In a backless.
Deep down inside, I know it's OK. I preach it all the time. I just need a little back-patting. He's OK, right?
