question on touching with airbags

So, Toyota says for the Sienna (among others), the carseat (or a child, or whatever) shouldn't touch the front passenger's seat because the added weight can throw off the airbag sensor. So.... why then do they put hooks on the back of the front passenger's seat to hang grocery bags???

Because consumers demand it. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with hanging grocery bags or bracing to your heart's content as long as there is nobody in the front seat.

That's what those hooks are?!

The hooks aren't really meant to hold weight. They're just supposed to hold the handles of the bags so that your groceries don't spill across the floor.

That's what I figured.
