Bruised Tailbone?

My almost 2 year old niece fell Saturday and injured her tailbone. Luckily its not broken but severely bruised. She is still in pain and riding in her car seats (a RN80SL and a RA50) seems to make it worse. Is there anything we can do to make her more comfortable? The doctor suggested making a donut or getting one for her to sit on but that obviously isn't a safe solution, right? Any ideas or suggestions?

Poor thing! That really hurts! There's really nothing you can do other than keep her out of the car. Being rf automatically keeps her weight from being entirely on her tailbone. If she were mine, I'd probably dose her up on Motrin if we had a car ride longer than a few minutes.

Yeah, that's what I thought. None of the doctors or family members suggestions really seemed safe (towel with arm floaties, pool noodle, egg crate, mini donut). She seems to be more comfortable in the RA50, I am assuming because of the way she sits in that seat, so we switched that out with the RN for her main seat. Thanks.
