Looking for a 5* safe vehicle with full length side curtains AND side airbags for both driver and passenger?

We were looking at the Ford Flex, but realized that the side airbags only have it for the front driver & passenger. What about the 2nd row seating?

We are looking for safety first!!

We want our chidl seated in the middle position of the 2nd row, but side impact airbags are important.

Thank you.

Hi. I listed the 2 sedans that have 5 star ratings in my post on this thread: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=175901. Very few vehicles have side torso airbags for the 2nd row, though it is becoming more available now. Most vehicles have side curtain airbags and those extend the length of the vehicle. You may have to purchase them as an option, depending on the manufacturer.

There's a difference in terminology between side airbags (which refer to the torso bags) and side curtain airbags (which drop down like curtains from a house). Neither will affect, positively or negatively, a child sitting in the center of the 2nd row.

I think but am not 100 percent certain that the Flex has side airbags for the front seats AND a Safety Canopy side curtain for the second and third rows.
Ours was a 09 Limited if it makes a difference as perhaps different trim levels have different safety options. I no longer own a Flex so can't run out and check for you though to be 100% sure. But as a former owner can tell you that it is an awesome car and I would not hesitate to own another in a heartbeat.

ETA I just asked DH and he said yes it did. My siggy picture shows the kid's seats in the second row so just imagine if it was a bench seat and your child seat was in the middle how far away from the doors they would be. Even with the kid's seats installed outboard in bucket seats they were quite far from the doors/windows compared to a sedan or smaller car.
