Anyone have a Graco Comfort Sport?

So this makes me a little sad but I've been meaning to go check it out for myself at a BRU or Target...

My niece rides in one of these and when my sister & her hubs found out about the 2 yr recommendation they wanted to turn her around...

Well she told me she tried it and it was awful they couldn't get it tight enough and when she made a turn the whole seat tipped over.

Mind you, they are not the most car seat savvy of people... neither of them have ever installed a seat before they had their baby and they are both young and he's in the marines so she's doing a lot of this by herself with little to no help.

So of course I'm asking her a million questions and from what it sounds like... she was using LATCH, turned the seat around and wasn't aware of there being a Rear facing belt path that you had to switch it to and there was nothing in the manual about how to switch the latch belt to the rear facing belt path they thought it was in the place it needed to be for RF or FF.
:( so she installed in RF with the LATCH in FF mode and that is why they couldn't get it tight enough. I was asking her about the belt paths and she said "the what?"

Well my niece is 1 yrs old now and over 20 lbs so she said "oh well, I tried and I'm scared to undo the seat now because of what happened and its in there nice and tight now so oh well" but it makes me sad because had they just known how to do it the right way she could be RF again and now they are like not going to deal with it because they had a bad experience.

So, what I'm wondering is

A) if that is true there is NO explanation of how to move the LATCH strap from the FF belt path to the RF belt path and

B) why the heck to convertible seats not come out of the box with the strap in RF mode!?!?! what a better way to promote using RF? I know with my recaro it was a real PITA to get the LATCH from FF bp to the RF bp and I had to do it a few times because the instructions were not 100% clear.

Anyways, I wish she lived by me because I could have totally fixed this in 5 seconds and felt better about it but she doesn't and now they are like its fine, whatever.. dont want another tip over scare. =/

You'll also find among the regulars on this board that the CS (aka Crappy Sport) is a much hated seat. Just a miserable excuse for a convertible that should just be discontinued as far as most are concerned...

I just bought a CS at Target and I believe that the LATCH strap was routed through the rf belt path. I played with it so much that I don't remember where it was, but the harness was in the lowest slots so I may be projecting that the LATCH strap was in the proper belt path.

It might be confusing about the belt path. I just had to msg a new daddy on FB that he was using the wrong belt path-- they had a comfort sport to take their new baby home from the hospital in, and he posted a pic of it in the new baby photos on fb.

Ugh I wish I had been there for her purchase... I tried to convince her to get a MR because she was pretty hung up on Graco and that seemed to be the best Graco convertible BRU / Target carried at the time that she bought the seat but she probably because her hub is a cheapskate bought the CS instead. I talked my other friend out of it the other day because it seems so lowsy and has low limits.

I told her I'd find a CPST in her area to meet with and have them install for her or if she wanted I'd go to BRU and call her and walk her through how to move it to the right path and she kind of shrugged me off and said in so many words its fine now, dont feel like dealing with it again. She was really upset when she saw the car seat fall over and my niece crying hysterically because she got scared. So she is just like whatever, its legal to be this way, and its nice and snug and its fine. I even told her to swing by a fire station and she was like 'eh yeah I'll see if I can find one....'

Probably when I get some extra moola I'll buy a nicer seat for her maybe a cowmoo ma or blvd to lure her in lol and put it away and when I see her next which will at the latest be March for a wedding her DD will be almost 2 then I'll give it to her for her early bday gift and install it for her!!! RF.. and say PLEASE KEEP IT THIS WAAAAAY until she's at least 3 lol. Her DD has short legs too, no excuses!
