Apex Question

So, some friends want to get the Apex. I know someone has a measurment of how tall the seatbacks had to be to work with this seat. How many inches from the bight to the top of the seat? They have a small car, but it has built in head restraints. Also, does the Apex require tall seatbacks when using it in the lower positions with the harness or are they only required for using the seat as a booster? They will use until the three year old is ready for a booster and pass it onto the HUGE baby brother in a couple years.
I hope this makes sense and TIA!

Depends on the height of the kid. The seatback of the vehicle has to be at least up to the kid's ears. Doesn't matter where the seatback is in relation to the Apex, it matters where the seatback is in relation to the kid sitting in the Apex.

Right, it depends on where the child's eye level or top of ears is positioned..... IME, most kids will be fine in the Apex without vehicle headrest so long as they still fit the harness -- once it needs to be used a booster, tall vehicles seatbacks or adjustable headrests are absolutely necessary.

Thanks! This is what I wanted to hear. They looked at the MA, but he is a bit squished and Dad didn't like the price of that or the Regent. She is going to look at the Radian and the Apex today. I think they are leaning towards the Apex. LO is not overly tall, but he is 40lbs exactly and just solidly built. Mom is wanting to get him to at least 5.5-6 before moving to a booster. Then little bro can use the Apex. Get this, the younger one is 3.5mths old and 21lbs! Exclusively breastfed, too! He has a SS1.

Sounds like my first two. They were both 15 at 6 weeks, 24/25 at 6 months. Which is exactly why I got the SS1 - betting on a similar kid. He's 8 mo and just now 20 lbs though! LOL

That sounds like a good plan -- I'd encourage them to consider a convertible with 35# RF limit for after baby outgrows the SS1 & remind them that a booster with head wings (like the Turbo, etc.) can help remind bigger kid to use the belt properly when the Apex harness is outgrown or it's handed down....

Oh, I should have mentioned that. The older child is in an AOE right now, so younger will get that. I was excited, because it has the 35lb limit! Then, older will get a Turbo or similar. The AOE will expire by the time older is out of the harness on the Apex, so throw out the AOE, move younger to the Apex and get older a good booster. My friend, who has a 6 month old, came up with this plan! I am so proud. She called and asked me what I thought. I about teared up. :2thumbsup: I have taught her well!
