Hints for cleaning old-style Marathon?

My niece is 4 and started out in a DC at birth but due to harness adjuster issues Britax replaced it with a Marathon. She's used it for 2 or 3 years and I know I've cleaned it once, but that's it. I don't have any issues with disassembling it (I've taken out everything that I can), but how on earth do I get in all the nooks and crannies? Because there is stuff everywhere. It's not just dry stuff but caked on stuff. HELP! We're looking at having to invest at least in a new harness, possibly comfort foam, and an adjuster. It stinks because there is definitely a lot of old milk and who knows what else. They spend a lot of time in the car (only have one) and she's a diet-controlled hypoglycemic/diabetic, so when she needs to eat, she NEEDS to eat.

Thanks!

My best solution to the deep cranies in the marathon, wrap a warm damp washcloth around the handle end of a butter knife. And just rub until the caked/dried liquid starts to dissolve. It will take awhile but warm water helps

I'd try taking it outside and hosing it down (with one of those squirty nozzles on the hose so there is some water pressure).
