shipping help?

Ok so I finally sell my ca lx. Only going to ID so one state over.

CA box dimensions are 27.5x18.5x23.5 girth at 84 inches and 23.5 lbs. They say length + girth must be less than 130 inches and less than 70lbs. Length + girth here =111.5

According to online postage box would be just shy of $18 with insurance. I get to the post office and the lady tells me I'm so wrong and that it'll be $83 to ship. I could practically drive it there for less.

I tried with a britax box dimensions 28x20x20 79 inch girth at widest point. length+girth here = 107

Plug in the irregular numbers in the calculator and get $15.86 without insurance.

What am I missing because I don't understand how it would be $83 to ship one state over.

I think she was wrong. No way it costs that much. Maybe she was looking at priority rather than parcel?
Did you look at UPS and FedEx?

I think she was wrong. I got the same thing you did.

I shipped an RA55 for just under $20 with dc and insurance.

I don't even think she quoted Priority. I could have shipped the RA55 via Priority for less than $10 more.

I think she is just like so many and math stoopid. She knows the formula multiplies something by 2 amd I bet she did all of it by 2.

I'm going to try to take it to the other post office tomorrow and see if the same thing happens. That being said should I still try to ship in the ca box or would the britax box be better since it's a little smaller? If the online prices are accurate it's a matter of a whole dollar (woohoo)

I can try but I don't think they'll both fit in my little car. The ca box alone takes up over half the back seat.

I've only ever had the online estimate be a dollar or so over (so it actually cost less to ship than I thought.) And it has NEVER been $80-something, even when I took a Boulevard to UPS and had them package it for me (it was around $60.) The seats I've shipped via USPS have all been less than $20, even to a coast. So whoever you're talking to has issues. :p

If the box is greater than 108" length+girth but less than 130" they charge an obscene oversized parcel charge making the price jump up. The box just has to come in at 108" to get the cheap rate. One time though, I had a messed up usps worker who was trying to double the length and add the girth making the box huge when it was infact 108" exactly. I took it to another po.
