Question Seat for a needy family.

So a friend of mine has 7 kids, no money, no permanent housing, her life is chaotic at the moment. About 1.5 years ago I gave her a SR 22, that expired last year. I told her it was going to expire in a few months, but she had no seat for the baby. She has since had another baby and is still using the seat, it's way expired now. I know she knows it's expired, but there is no money to buy a new one. I am not sure how she installs it, but she always has him buckled up tight when I see him.

I really want to buy her a new seat. I know she likes the bucket seats, but wonder if maybe a Scenera would be better. They drive a Suburban, when it works. She has 7 kids and don't those only fit 6 passengers?? I was thinking of picking up a cheap Scenera or another bucket for her, if it was a bucket it would have to be one with a higher wt limit, I like that Onboard one, but not sure how much they are. This sounds odd, but I am afraid if I buy a Scenera she will put the toddler in it, and keep the baby in the expired seat. Part of me thinks, well at least they would both be in seats then. I would never encourage someone to use an expired seat, but expired seat used properly is better than no seat. :)

Thoughts? Her kids are all super small and skinny. The baby is about 10 months and easily still fits in the SR 22.

Some suburbans seat 9- 3 in each row. Do you have any programs in your area that give out car seats. It's very nice of you to want to buy this family a car seat, but first check out options that are available in your community. If you have them and give the info to mom, yet nothing is ever done, you know she very likely is content with the status quo.

She has 7 kids? Ages? What do the others ride in? I agree that helping her find community resources would be better- even if your checks have a co-pay and you pay for a few of the seats, they could help her get seats for all her kids, rather than just one, for the same cost to you.

I have no idea what they ride in if anything. All I know is she has the baby buckled properly in his seat. She is a friend from church, but I don't see her much outside church. They just got their Suburban working again, before they were trying to pile most of the kids in a car :(

I live in MN, is there anyway to find out about resources?

Good to know the Suburban might fit 9 passengers.

Our suburban was an 8 passenger.
front row driver and passenger
2nd row 3 seats
3rd row 3 seats

the 3rd row is tight. Ours was a 1999. The scerena worked well RF behind the driver. It fell in the crack if in the middle spot. Ours was a 60/40 2nd row.
