I can't imagine being able to hold tight to a baby with going so fast and then stopping so abruptly!

I used to think it didn't matter if I had a lap baby, since if we crashed, we'd most likely all die anyway. But I've since learned there are plenty of instances like the above, which is much more of a concern than the catastrophic failure I always feared.

I can't remember the actual numbers, but most plane accidents are survivable to some extent.

The plane exploding in the air or crashing into the middle of the ocean are very very very rare events (thankfully) but they get a lot of press coverage so it is easy to assume that most accidents are like that.
