Installing UAS on a Radian XT

So the other day I was crawling around my back seat on the search for my camera, good news, found the camera. Bad news, noticed that the UAS strap on my Radian was loose. This has happened once before. When I looked at the seat, it seemed like the buckle, not sure what it is called, but the part that the strap you pull comes out of with the silver tab, seemed to be floppy. Sure enough, it was very floppy.

I called Sunshine Kids and after explaining what happened, the person suggested maybe it was an installation issue. That confuses me, because if it is installed and tight, it shouldn't do that? right? Or, is there a wrong way to install the UAS? Maybe I am doing something incorrectly?

Once I email them the DOM and the Serial #, they said they will send a new strap so for now I will just re-install using the seat belt.

I know there has already been a huge discussion on this, so I just wanted to confirm that as long as you clip the UAS in properly and pull it tight, that it should be correct.

Correct. If you can, I've found that if you can get in behind the Radian and using your hips, push the seat towards the back of the seat and pull the UAS tight, you can (depending on the vehicle) get it in tight enough that the latch plate lays flat and the loosening is less likely to happen.

I was able to do this in a Honda Civic, and there hasn't been any loosening to date (to my knowledge).

But yeah, if they say re-install with seat belt, then do that. Remember you can twist the buckle stalk up to 3 times to get it low enough that the latch plate of the seat belt doesn't sit on the edge of the belt path.

You are probably not doing anything wrong when you install but those SL straps don't always work they way they are supposed to in every vehicle. I'd switch to a seatbelt install.

Thanks! I will switch it to the seatbelt tonight. We don't seem to be able to get a great upright install with either, so it won't really matter which we use!
