infant seat to convertible and how convertible fits?

Hi all! I'm new here and wanted to get some info on when to change from our infant car seat to a convertible, and also the fit of convertible seats in our vehicles?

DS will be 5 months old on the 28th, and he weighs just over 15lbs already, lol, he's a chub! :) We currently have him in a Graco Snugride that goes to 22 lbs. We have already purchased two Britax Boulevard 70s (found them for only $232 from albeebaby.com with free shipping!). Just wondering at what point we should consider switching him from the infant seat to the convertibles? He's not quite sitting up on his own, but he does have pretty good head control and can sit well supported in a bumbo seat. I've noticed him sometimes trying to raise up/lean forward while strapped snugly in the infant seat. It is a tad easier having him in the carrier still when trying to get him and DD in and out of the car and into daycare, lol, but was just curious at what point would be best to make the switch.

We have a 2011 Kia Sorrento that is our main vehicle, and DH's truck is a 2005 Ford F150 Supercrew 4-door pickup with the full back seat. We currently have DD, who will turn 3 in July, and weighs approx. 32 lbs, FFing in Britax Boulevard CSs as well.

Also, we do have a 3rd Boulevard CS in my mom's minivan (a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country), also FF-ing. My mom is looking to get another convertible seat for DS for her van, as she does sometimes pick up/drop off at daycare for us, etc. She wasn't wanting to spend the money on the Britax if she could find as good of a seat for less. She is looking at a True Fit Recline on amazon.com for $148. Is this a good seat? And do you think it will fit well in her van in a captain's chair?

Thanks!

For your mom's car I wouldn't get another convertible. She's forward facing, no sense buying a seat that rear faces and forward faces when she'll only use half. I'd buy her a forward facing seat and pass down the convertible to the baby. I'd look at the Evenflo Maestro and Graco Nautilus.

As for your baby, move whenever you'd like, provided he fits in the Boulevard (shoulders over the lowest position). A lot of people don't use infant seats at all, there's no safety difference in them (I'm one of those people).

If you'd like, you could return your new Boulevards and pass down your older Boulevards, then buy your older daughter new seats for your cars. Again, something that's forward facing. In addition to the two I already mentioned, since you seem to like Britax, you could look at the Frontier 85 as well (I only don't mention it as a secondary seat because of the price).

You don't need a newborn angle for a five month old, so your seats should fit just fine in your cars. They are very small front to back.
