RF Britax Advocate top tether question

I have a Britax advocate rear facing. When I top tether it to the bottom of front seat, should I pull it as tight as I can or just tight enough to hold it? If I pull it tight, the seat will recline. is that ok?

Just remove the slack and that's all. Tightening with all your might to the point that you can play a high note on it like a guitar string over reclines the carseat as you've discovered. Over tightening the RF top tether has also been known to damage a Britax convertible carseat's recline mechanism so that it won't stay in the upright position for forward facing when the time comes to forward face (ideally after your kiddo has reached the convertible's maximum rear facing capacity since rear facing is uber safe :)).
