Help please! Leaving tomorrow....

I can't get the back of the HBB to fit in the suitcase. I was going to pack the back and carry on the seat tomorrow so we would have the booster for the rental car. We are already taking the two marathons on the plane (4yo 40lb, 2yo, 1yo traveling). What now? Check the booster? Buy a brand new one leave it in the box and check it hoping it won't be damaged? Take just the low back and the belt adjuster (not really comfortable with this idea). We are flying CA to NC with a layover in Dallas. Thanks so much!

How much will you be in the car? Any chance you can just buy one there? (Like, have it shipped to whoever is picking you up or the rental place, or have an adult get the rental and pick one up? That might not work with your schedule, I guess, but that's a good option if you can just go out and pick one up if needed.) If you have to check the whole thing, a box would be good.

How much will you be in the car? Has she booster trained? How did she do? Is someone picking you up at the airport or getting a rental? If someone is picking you up, ask them to grab one. If a rental, I would take the lbb and use it until you can grab a hbb if you will be in the car much.

Yes, gate checking is better because they're supposed to put that stuff at the front of the luggage hold. But, luggage still shifts and items still can be damaged. Also, sometimes items left at the gate for gate checking don't make it onto the plane. A 5.5 yr old should do ok in a backless booster unless you're doing long drives where she may fall asleep or get bored.
