Impressed with Geico

I got bumped in a parking lot today. I was inside, they left a good note (a 16 year old ran into my car when parking and had already left when I came out). I called his insurance co (Geico) and made all the arrangements, but I was surprised that they mentioned that their adjuster is going to inspect the car seats to make sure they are not damaged. It didn't even cross my mind to have the seats replaced in that kind of "accident." But I am glad that this is something they do regularly.

The radian I'm sure is fine regardless (I'm sure both are, but SKJP goes by those minor crash guidelines) I had the CA in my car by chance, it's usually in DH's car, and I wouldn't mind upgrading to a CA65  So... should I push for a new seat? LoL

My radianxt manual says to replace in the event of any crash, you might want to check yours to make sure.

would you really consider that a crash? Not being snarky, but really curious. I don't, but I am willing to...

Well, I would only bc you called the insurance company so there must have been some damage. Not being in the car, there is no way to know how hard you got hit, kwim?

If the vehicle is damaged, it was a crash. The Radian does require replacement after any crash.

Their adjuster cannot inspect the seats and determine whether they were damaged or not. Damage can be invisible. The only way to tell would be to do extensive studies, such as X-rays of the seat. Even then, it doesn't really matter. The manufacturer requires replacement after any crash.

ummm....an ins agent cant just come out and take a look at your seats and decide that they are "safe". Many problems can be hidden to the naked eye. I would not trust an adjuster to evaluate my car seat safety. jmo

Oh I know. I wouldn't trust them either. I'm just happy they even cared to mention anything about car seats. Too many people have no idea they need replaced. The only thing I plan on having them "inspect" about my car seats is the line in the manual about replacing them. I needed a little convincing from you all whether this is really a crash, but I guess it is after all!

When I was rear ended recently the adjuster looked at my seats because the foaming had cracked. He told me they would replace them but he would suggest I use the crashed seats anyway.... Yea scary. I plan to write a formal letter when my claim is finished.

I was backed into a couple months ago... and I did not replace my seats... Even techs here said no need, and State Farm agreed to, then refused. I had a Graco, TF, RN, and Evenflo HBB. I am not concerned.

I just needed a new bumper cover though.

Maybe I should make a poll. Who thinks I should ask to have the seats replaced? I honestly think it was so, so minor that it's silly to me to think they need replaced. I was just thinking it'd be nice to upgrade the CA if I could, but I don't feel like I NEED to. I got bumped by a teenager who doesn't know how to park yet (apparently), I didn't get plowed over by a bus ;) lol

To show just how minor this was...

Well I have to say that I am still impressed.
Even though I felt 100% ok still using the seats, they didn't even ask. The adjuster just said if there were car seats in the car, go buy new ones, bring back the receipt and leave the old seats & they will send a reimbursement check. No questions, nothing! So, I did. :)
