I am just seeing this, I always forget to check here.

I would make sure whatever she is in, that he head doesn't fall forward at all. She can use the rolled receiving blanket trick to keep the head straight. I am assuming that she would be rear-facing? If so keep the seat at the full 45 degree angle. Also make sure that she is securing the oxygen tanks, either in an unused seatbelt or under the seat. Does the baby have any other underlying health issues? Low tone, etc?

:yeahthat: She may also need to select a car seat with straps that will fall in the correct place on the shoulders without a chest clip, as it may need to be removed because pulling them together may irritate the trach (depending on how large the child is, etc.)

I can't imagine that the trach would be anywhere near the straps, and most tubing that I have seen sticks out versus lies flat on the child so it would not be in the way if straps. :)

I'm thinking of really little ones-- I saw one trached kid (about 9 months old I think?) whose straps were pulled close together by the chest clip and were irritating the skin under the trach site. (It was a seat with close-together straps to begin with too.) We took it off and all was well. I guess for a 14 month old it probably won't really be an issue, but you never know what size a kid will be. :)
