This is what I did:

  1. Check to make sure that the elastic is loose in the hem and not stiched into it. If it is stitched in, then these instructions won't help.
  2. Make a tiny slit, about 1/4" along the hem somewhere that is not noticable.
  3. Purchase elastic fabric cording, I used 1/4" flat type.
  4. Where you made the slit, pull out the elastic a few inches.
  5. Cut the old elastic, and tie one end to the new elastic (or use a very tiny safety pin, or a few stitches). Make sure the other side of the old elastic doesn't creep back into the hem when you cut.
  6. Start pulling the non-tied elastic through the hem, moving the fabric as you go. This will pull the new/tied on elastic through.
  7. Keep slowly work till the whole new fabric is in the hem.
  8. Play with tightening the elastic till it has a good fit on the seat - not too loose, not too tight.
  9. Cut the new elastic, and sew the two ends together.
  10. You can now sew the little slit up or leave it (most Britax fabrics will not fray).

Awesome idea!! I fix elastic in diapers all the time and never thought to pull it thru that way!

:yeahthat:

Only thing I would add is there were a couple of spots where there were seams or extra stitching that the opening was tighter on when I did mine and I had to unstitch those places to get it through, then stitch them back. It was no more than an inch, so not too bad.
