two-shockers in two days

Friday evening as we are heading out of town on the freeway to go to Las Vegas for the weekend, we pass a very small two-door hatchback car with 6 people inside. Dad driving, mom in the front. Infant in the back in a carrier style carseat. 2 pre-teens outboard, with a toddler on the lap of one of the kids. As I'm telling my husband to look, I notice the mom in the car is staring inside my car pointing (alerting the others in her car to look) at my 2 1/2 year old son rearfacing in his marathon. She looked like she had just seen a UFO.

So, Saturday we are here in Vegas at MILs house and we are coordinating our trek over to the strip. Those in our party are MIL, step-FIL, 1/2SIL, DH, me and my son. Total 6 people. MIL drives a 2001 Lexus SUV. We drove out civic hybrid. So I asked her if her car had a 3rd row (I wasn't sure). She said no, so I said okay, we will just take 2 cars then. She said "No. You can put Jordan's seat in the cargo area of the Lexus.
Needless to say, we took 2 cars.

Sadly, we see toddlers on laps here too. Just yesterday a lady pulled into a parking lot as we were leaving with her pre-teen in the front holding a toddler:eek: And MIL and the cargo area!? How could anyone think that was remotely safe:confused:

I see babies on laps all the time here in louisiana. It's a common thing. Awful shame. I live in a somewhat low income area though, not that that should be an excuse. I cringe every time I go pick up my kids from daycare. I see horrible misuse all the time.

I can't believe your MIL would say that.
