Measuring RF room left to grow.

Pic in post#5

So I got a BLVD70 in Caitlin  for DD when we're done with the Keyfit30. I installed it for DS2 and put him in it (rearfacing). He fits really good, looks comfy. I know how to measure how close he is to outgrowing it. I put a ruler on his head and a ruler at the top of the shell. But when I put him in the seat without buckling and tightening he only has 1" or so left. When I buckle him in and tighen him down he's got slightly more than 2".
Is it okay to measure that way? That's the way he'd ride in the seat of course so that would be the correct way to measure right? I'm trying not to be so uptight about it but I don't want him riding in a seat he's outgrown. I think if he's okay in it I'll have him ride in it for awhile. I'm fed up with the Radian right now. He's way above the 3rd slot in it but not to the 4th yet and the harness almost slips off his shoulders. I really like him the the BLVD so I hope he still fits in it.
Yeah, I know pics would help. Too busy last night and I need DH to help because I can't hold two rulers and take a pic at the same time. I'll try tonight.

Sounds like he has plenty of room :) You can take a picture directly from the side, and we can eyeball the shell above his head.

HERE is a thread that shows you how to measure :)

Ah!! Thanks for the link. I spent a 1/2 hour searching for that thread (knew I'd seen it before) and couldn't find it. He's actually got more room than I thought. I'll have to double check when he gets up from quiet (yeah right) time.
I'll still try to post pics later or tomorrow.
