top tethering to cargo tie downs

Somewhere else, someone has said that in certain suburbans/yukons you can attach a top tether to a cargo tie down. I do not believe that can be correct, but I don't know everything. Can you in certain vehicles?

Yes, in my husband's 2001 Ford Explorer, the top tether spots are also cargo tie downs(the set closest to the seat) It specifically says this in the vehicle's manual.

There are some vehicles where a cargo anchor is used as a tether anchor either by design (usually in earlier model years when tethers were first required/not required) or as a retrofit option. In these cases it has been tested as one, and it's usually one specific anchor per seat, not any and all anchors behind that seat. If this is the case it will be listed in the vehicle manual and/or the LATCH manual.

Thanks! The discussion is relating to a vehicle which already has 3 tether anchors and the latch manual makes no mention of being able to use cargo tie downs as tether anchors.

Is the LATCH manual available on line? I was asked by a friend of a friend if they were allowed to use a cargo hook in the 1999 Tahoe. Any way for a regular person to access the LATCH manual?

No, you have to buy it. Or just post in the technical/installation forum and someone with the manual can look it up for you :) (I can tomorrow, but mine is out in the car and I'm not going out to get it in my PJs, lol.)

I have a 99tahoe, the only cargo hooks you are allowed to tether with are the ones by the door, iirc. I can check the manual for sure.

Thank you thank you! I did post in the technical forum but got no response (there were two topics, though, maybe the first topic was so flummoxing that this one got ignored).
