Pretty sure they are FF on a RF seat. My mom had a car just like that when I was little and I remember sitting back there all the time.

Looks like ff seats on a rf 3rd row! I have a similar age wagon and for curiosity sake have installed some ff seats back there...it works like a dream and the kids think its hilarious! If I didn't hang out here id go with it indefinitely and have seen it done plenty around my area. Shoot isn't it just like eerf!

going by the make/model of the the station wagon, I think they are just rearfacing carseats... but I could be wrong.

Back in the late 90's we often went to drive in movies with friends in a ford taurus wagon and we installed the kids seats in the rear facing seats before we got there and that way the kids could watch the movie out the rear window and could easily fall asleep in their seats and remain that way all the way home. Now I know it was wrong, but it worked great at the time and was much easier getting them out and into bed too.

Yup, those are rearfacing bench seats that fold down flat in the back of the station wagon. That was my spot in almost the exact station wagon from '83 on.

My mom had a station wagon like that in the 80's. I used to sit in the 3rd row with my sister, but I hated being seperated from the rest of the family like that. The rule was that we had to wear seatbelts in the car, so I would loosen my seatbelt so I could turn around and sit on my knees (and face the front of the car), and put the belt on the back of my knees. REAL safe.

I wish that car seats were approved on seats like that. I used to drive a taurus wagon and would have LOVED to be able to put the kids in back. Oh well. The pic does look like a RF bench.

Does that make me a pioneer ERFer? :p I was harnessed till almost 7 years old (because I weighed 36 lbs) in my steel framed, brown vinyl covered, 70's seat facing backwards in an '83 Chevy Caprice Classic station wagon. I don't think it was disallowed back then either.

'83 Chevy Caprice Classic station wagon.

There's an 85 Caprice wagon sitting in my driveway. The manual makes no mention of car seats at all. FWIW, there were several Euro seats that used to be approved for rfing vehicle seats. The Britax King was one of them and the very first production run for the US allowed it too.

I had a 1998 Ford Taurus wagon with the third row seat and had two car seats installed back there not too many years ago. Luckily it broke and was going to cost more to fix it than it was worth!! It even had top tether anchors between the two back seats!! I'm sure they were for the second row. I sure didn't know that you couldn't put car seats back there or that the car seats weren't supposed to go back there. I started on my car seat and car safety journey about the same time as it broke down. So when we replaced it I found something different even though dh was pushing to get another one like it.
