A few AOE ?'s

I am trying to help out a frined with her car seat, so I need a little help. I don't have the manual.

When in booster mode (I know it is not rec. for booster mode, she will be puchasing a different seat very soon, but until then...) Can it be latched and tethered?

Second, not really an AOE question, her ds is about 4.25 years old and she is using it in booster mode. He is 43" tall and 40lbs. Should she put him back in a 5 pt? I have my ds who is about the same age in a 5 pt and will for a long time yet. She told me he sits still in the car and does not mave around at all. Thought? Suggestions?

Thanks!

What is the weight on the AOE, if it is only the 40lb version, I would definitely not reharness him. I imagine also that he could be over the top slots at this stage too.

If he is still under the top slots and it is the 50lb seat, I would definitely reharness.

My book is for a seat DOM is 2008 and 40lbs max (Canada) Regarding booster: Base must be removed and no tether. Also states to do not use if midline of ears are above the top of the seat.

what's her budget for a new seat?

how well did she use it when it was used as a harnessed seat (aka... was it always properly installed and used?)

I told her if she does decided to re-harness, she should look into a Nauti. I am not sure what her budget is. So, the bottom needs to come off, no tether, and no latch? Hopefully, she will just go pick up a different seat.

I don't know how well she used it as a harnessed seat. Our kids go to Preschool together and she knows I am in to car seats, so she asked me to take a look. Her daughter's car seat looked great, installed perfect ect, ect.

I hoped that was the case... but if she'd been one who didn't bother to install tightly, had loose/twisted straps, I'd say a properly used booster is better than improperly used harness.

I'd probably suggest she look into a Maestro or Nautilus that can keep her harnessed a bit longer... point out the Nautilus becomes a good booster, and that the Maestro is also good, but short and will need a regular booster bought not too long after the harness is outgrown.
