In a crash, what's the deal again?

DH was in a minor fender bender this am. He rear ended a SUV at max 5 miles/hour and kind of went under the SUV's back fender, thus the massive damages to DH's car. DH's car is pretty messed up by the hood, but drivable. He really needs to get a new tank for the power steering and then have some body work done. No airbags or anything deployed, nor did the seatbelt lock.

DD1's seat was installed in center of the back seat, an EFTA. Does it really need to be replaced?

Insurance should cover it shouldn't it

Your ins. should cover it if you have full coverage but not if you just have liability.

If you have full coverage auto and the child seat manufacturer requires replacement after ANY crash (which Evenflo does), yeah, they'll pony up.

Glad it wasn't serious.:)

Insurance covering it is completely up to the ins company (unless you are in California where it is law). I have complete coverage, rear-ended a car, and my ins refused to pay for new carseats. They claimed that my carseats were excluded as personal belongings and custom furnishing (what a bunch of hooey!!!). I wrote letters, filed a complaint with the Insurance comission, all to no avail. Contemplating finding a lawyer, but don't want to spend the $$. It seems like it would be in their best interest for the seats to be replaced and my children safely restrained, but apparently my 3 kids aren't worth $500 to the insurance company. I have Farm Bureau in SC, and am currently shopping for a new ins company. Now I know to ask about car seat being covered when I get ins. Hope you have better luck with your ins!!

Chris, my step mom works for Geico and says they are told to pony up for all car seats lest they be liable for not replacing them.

Sorry you had that experience, Chris. That's not what's *supposed* to happen. :(

Yep, it needs replaced. Despite the fact that it seemed minor, the stresses on various areas of the seat are unknown and could be surprising.

You could even call evenflo and see if they want the seat back, they usually give u a coupon for a new one or better yet give u a new one in trade... It's rare but u can try!
