(I hope this is the right place to post this!)
I was recently wondering about the non-vehicle related elements of road safety. Obviously there have been excellent advances in vehicle design, occupant safety and child restraints over recent decades but what about things such as the design and condition of the roads?
Do people feel that the roads in their area are safe? Are they well maintained or potholed? Is the quality of the surface good or bad? Does anyone avoid certain junctions or roads because of accident rates? Are there local or national campaign groups which work to try to solve these kinds of issues?
I am just curious because here in the UK, the condition of the roads is becoming a big issue – potholes are very common and the amount of maintenance appears to be in decline. There are no doubt government budget issues which play a part in how much funding goes towards road maintenance but I can’t help but feel some road surfaces are becoming really quite dangerous and I was wondering whether anyone has experienced similar issues in their local area and if so how these issues are addressed (either by campaign groups or government)?
Thank you very much in advance for any information anyone can provide, I really appreciate it.
