Videos of the Radian problems

If you have taken a video (or want to ... hint hint! ;)), post them here! Make sure you describe your problem. :) I know we've got a separate thread for if your car is affected by the SL problem (report here!), so let's keep that all in it's own thread.

Perhaps this can make easy access to forward to SKJP/NHTSA with *visuals* of our problems.

I have my RNXTSL installed FF outboard with LATCH in my '04 Grand Am. It's been there since I got the seat, so a month or two. ETA: This makes it sounds like it's been installed there without ever moving. I mean that it's been installed here, and taken out, numerous times, and I've never noticed a problem. The seat itself has been installed *here* for maybe a week or so. This morning I had to drive an hour each way to go pick up a kid, the kid who would be using my seat.

I moved the crotch buckle to the outer most position because it's been getting in the way. I obviously didn't notice a problem with the install, and I had my arm in the RFing belt path to move the crotch buckle. I didn't notice anything.

We got home and the kiddo got out of the seat. I decided to try to move the headwings down just a tad, as they were up a bit too high for my liking.

The back of the RN pulled off my vehicle seat.

I was very leery to check for movement. There were several inches of movement in my seat.

My installs are rock-the-car solid. I know it's not because it was not properly installed to begin with. It was the darned superLATCH.

Why didn't I notice the looseness? The stupid rubber grips on the bottom of the seat.

Remember what I said? This is while I had a kid in the seat. For an hour drive. On the interstate. A FOUR lane interstate.

Here's mine. The explanation is on YouTube in the caption below the video.

I will just add here that after a couple of weeks of going back and forth with SKJP, they decided not to try to further solve my problem or refund my money, since the seat was out of warranty. (Purchased 1/10, started having problems 3/11). However, since my son's legs used to be too short to reach the tilt-lock, I'm not sure how I could have known about it earlier than I did.

Russ did send back the first replacement LATCH strap (the one that a different customer service rep originally told me didn't work because it was from the defect box in the warehouse), with a note telling me to just go ahead and install it properly this time and that should fix my problem.

The strap shown in this video is the second replacement strap they sent me.

This is mine that I took last night in a restaurant parking lot. I then moved him to forward facing (a pain!) because the seatbelt install doesn't work in my vehicle (2007 Odyssey), either. :(

I have a 2006 Ford Explorer, but have also had this problem in my previous vehicle, a 07 Explorer.

I have 3 Radian XTSL's that loosen in this vehicle, RF- both OB positions in the 2nd row seat. I have not tried to install FFing in the 3rd row yet.

this video shows loosening OB, driver side. I do not let my DD ride in the seat while installed with LATCH anymore however, it has loosened with her in the seat AND during "experimental" installs on days when she never rode in the seat.

I'm not sure how to imbed the video, so here is the link.

Someone just noticed this problem because of comments posted on SKJP's facebook wall, checked her seat, and found that her son was doing it with his foot too. She caught it on camera:

This video is of a radian XT installed RF in a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan in the passenger side middle row captain seat. For us it isn't coming undone on its own in fact the seat has been tightly secured for about 2 ish mths. However when we first installed it.. I can say it wasn't as tight as I would have liked but we were pretty rushed and in the store parking lot not expecting the seat to have arrived yet.. Anyways by the end of the day it had loosened but NOT undone. My kids are not capable of undoing the latch on their own with shoes on.. maybe bare feet. I will try again on the weekend with barefeet to see if it makes a difference.

video 1 is my 15 mth old with my 5 yr old as the camera man..please ignore the mess

the above video is mine. just to be clear, this seat doesnt belong to my 2.5 year old, but to my 5 year old, who doesnt know about this issue (and im not about to tell him). I wanted to know how easily my 2.5 yo could get the LATCH strap undone, and as you can tell, it didn't take him long. I was hoping to hand this seat down to my 2.5 yo after my 5 year old gets to 45 lbs, but that isn't going to happen.

i really dont think this is a car compatibility issue but a design issue w/ the strap. We have a Radian XT (that my 2.5 year old son rides in) and he can in no way move that strap with the way it is designed (the button).

the car is a 2007 Mercedes R Class, which has captain chairs.. Luckily i havent experienced any issues to date b/c of the fact that the LATCH strap is next to do the door on this seat..thus my son doesnt put his leg on the side there. However, it is EASY to undo.

Another thought i had is that maybe there is simply a manufacturing defect and only some of these straps are so easily loosened. i of course have no idea.
