Can fit exactly the same at the top harness setting of both the GN and the FR 85?

I put her in both with the shoulder straps at the stop setting, installed the seats, and they fit her exactly the same. Where's that 2" the FR 85 is supposed to have over the GN?

See, I keep seeing some numbers flying around that can't be right for some of these seats. I thought from the beginning, we thought the GN was 18-18.5" and the FR was 19-19.5". So, that's only an inch difference. You can easily gain or lose an inch with installation. Now, it would be concerning if we thought the GN was 17.5 and the FR 20" or something, you know?

Yep. Because I'd tried her in the fr85 a few days ago uninstalled but sitting in the vehicle in her seat and determined she was right under the top slots. Then I put the GN in booster mode in and noticed she was right under the top slots in it too so I got curious. I put the harness in it, installed it in her spot and tried her in it and sure enough, she's right under the top slots. So I figured maybe the install would change her fit in the FR so I put that in and got the same result. I was hoping she'd gain a bit of room in the FR installed. She's been wiggly lately and I'm tired of telling her to sit right.

She's harnessed for now but her next growth spurt she'll outgrow the harness in both seats. :(

it's gotta be the way each seat meshes with that car... in my van, most seats lose room... but the Regent and pretty much any blow-molded plastic seat (not that there are many, but this includes boosters) seem to gain room...

your vehicle may just happen to do the reverse...

but I'd try her in them in the house... see if you see the same issue... that will tell you how much height is affected by install.

I can try that I guess. But it really doesn't matter since I can't use the seat in the car. It would just be an I'm curious type thing. I so wanted to get her a FR 85 too. :(

Remind me that my child is safe in a TB as long as her wiggly butt stays in position.

I found that 2 inches in another seating position. It fits her great both harnessed and booster there. However the princess has decided that she is too old for a harness. :p
