Megabus

Our city is adding a megabus stop in May, and I'd like take my family on a day trip for my DH's birthday. For only a dollar each we can go to a bigger city and have a fun day. However, this is what it says on their website: For children under the age of 7 but over the age of 2, and not weighing more than 66 pounds, megabus.com recommends they be transported in a child safety seat that meets applicable government standards for use in a motor vehicle and is in a state of good repair.

Since the buses have lap/shoulder belts, I think this is a good idea. However, I don't know if I want to lug around 3 carseats all day. My 2 younger kids have never been on a bus before, and my 1st grader has only ridden a few times for field trips on a school bus.

My youngest is 2 years 9 months, and is a peanut - 23 pounds and 32 inches. My middle child is 4 years 6 months and is 34 pounds and 42 inches. My oldest is 7 years 4 months, and is 47 inches and 45 pounds. The littlest one currently is FF in a Scenera. The middle one rides FF in a Nautilus, harnessed. The oldest is in a Turbobooster with the back on.

I don't really want to lug around 3 seats all day, but also don't feel good about my little ones wearing an adult seatbelt that won't fit them properly.

I think my oldest could ride with just the bottom portion of the booster and be fine. That wouldn't be too bad to lug around. Not sure what to do with my other little ones.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Also, has anyone had any experience with Megabus before?

Thanks!

No experience with this but a couple things come to mind:

Bring a stroller and use it to carry seats. If you have a double, one of the kiddos could ride as well. The scenera and a backless turbo will easily fit in/on a stroller. I think I'd want a smaller/lighter seat than a Nauti for #2 child. In this situation, I'd definitely consider a HBB, maybe a 1st years/Compass seat because it folds, Maestro. . .

What if anything is available at/near the bus station as far as lockers or storage?

Anyone in the "big city" you know? Would they be willing to hold your seats and meet up with you again when you're ready to return home?

Megabus is great!! Before DD was born, DH and I took a great weekend trip from Columbus, OH to Chicago and had a great experience! (even with the overnight drive) We also did a quick overnight trip to Indianapolis a different time. Great experience with both. No advice on the carseat situation (I don't even recall them having seatbelts when we traveled several years ago), but we enjoyed Megabus. It is a such an economical way to travel!! Have fun! (Where are you going?)
