Where do you draw the line?

We're vacationing in Sedona this week. The big thing here is these off-roading Jeep tours. My husband wanted to do it, has been talking about it for weeks. So we get here and I decide to get the details. I can't go because I'm pregnant (their rule). It's lap belts only, seats are barely high enough to reach your neck, and the majority of the seats are NOT forward-facing.

The guy working the counter looked at me like an allien when I said I'd need to provide my own CRs. They do provide for kids 4 and under per state law. But no way, right? So the biggest issue is that all I have for my 5yr old is a booster which isn't going to work so I just nixed the whole trip. And yes, these Jeeps do go on the main roads to get to their trails.

My DH thinks I need to loosen up. So I'm just curious what you'd do?

Bottom line for me: if it's not safe for me and my unborn child, I'm not letting my 5 & 3 yr old go either.

Of course it's not safe, and honestly I'm shocked that they would allow a 3 and 5 year old to go. Tell your husband that it sounds like he would really enjoy it so you'd be more than happy to hang out with the kids while he goes on his own. If he makes a fuss, explain that this is one of the times that you are not willing to compromise and that he'll surely have more fun on his own instead of listening to your kids complain or cry about being scared or uncomfortable.

Nope. If it's not safe for a pregnant woman, neither is it for 5 & 3 year olds rattling around in the same vehicle. Besides, there's also no way to tell in advance if it would be something that held the kids' interest the ENTIRE TIME without them becoming bored, overwhelmed, or sick from the motion.
It would be a real downer for your dh to have to cope with whiny unhappy miserable kids all by his lonesome. :duck:

That's how I'd approach the veto :shrug-shoulders:

can you rent jeeps and do your own tour on a mild trail?

We go to Moab Utah quite often, lots of mountain biking and jeeping. They have the tours you can do, but there are also a couple of jeep rental places so you can go on your own.

I even took our Subaru on a pretty crazy trail before I had my jeep (you can usually get to some very scenic places without doing the 'hard' 4 wheeling.

Awesome! Thanks for the responses. Things worked out just fine after we found a place that rented out GPS units with guided tours. We even ended up on a crazy bumpy road that was a bit too much for me.

DH is usually totally on board with these things so his grumpiness threw me a curveball.

Chalk it up to Vacation blues. Disturbed sleep, emotional highs & lows, different food/eating schedules easily affects all of us, even the ones who don't have a habit of such behavior under stress :shrug-shoulders:
