Airline Carseat

I was wondering if anyone has had any difficulties with finding a carseat that will fit into a Southwest plane. I am going to be taking my two year old for his first flight and was curious about if a carseat 20 inches wide would fit appropriately into the purchased seat. The website recommends a seat no wider than 16 inches but I am having a hard time finding one!

It's very likely the seat you have is FAA approved. Just put the armrest up and the seat will fit just fine.

What seat do you have?

Moving this to the "other transportation" forum.

We flew with an Evenflo Maestro on a SOuthwest plane and it fit fine. Was great to travel with -- could even pull the tray table almost all the way down and my son used it to play on. (A bit crooked so I made sure drinks were in a sippy cup)

We will be purchasing a new carseat for our trip to use on board and in a rental car. I am considering the Cosco Scenera or the Evenflo Tribute Sport. Both are very reasonably priced, but I want to purchase the safest one for my little guy. Do you have any ideas on either of them for use in the air or in a vehicle?

Both are lightweight, narrow, and inexpensive. Either would be fine. I think one of our very respected members here, Jools, said she would prefer the Tribute because it lasts longer.

Does he sit rear facing?

I have successfully installed a Snugride 22, rf Scenera, & rf Marathon all on southwest flights when flying by myself with DS. The passenger in front of you will not be able to recline their seat though. I've always warned them & still had one girl try and jam her seat back into DS carseat.

I flew Southwest last week with a Nautilus and it fit very easily in the airline seat - I was even able to put the armrest down, and the Nautilus base is 20" wide.

We just flew Southwest and used our RA50. I had it rearfacing, and in fact, I don't think it would have worked ffing. The base was several inches off the seat bottom, but I didn't try too hard.
