I went to a car seat check event today...

I "passed" 100%. No corrections or "education" needed or offered.
Even my 6 and 8-year olds passed, answering all of their questions accurately and showing how they get in/out of their seats properly, etc.

So, you'd think I'd be thrilled, right? But I'm not.

I wasn't overly impressed with the 2 techs who did my vehicle. Like, at all. One of them said she had never seen a d-ring used for RF tethering. Uhhh, huh? That's what it's for. The same tech asked why I chose to use the seatbelt to install DD's FR85. She is *very clearly* over 40 lbs. And when they checked for movement, they didn't do so at the beltpath. Sigh.

I have to say, though, that the shining moment for me was when the county PD's CPST drove up in his cruiser...with no headrest on his vehicle seat.

Wow. I'm not surprised about the d-ring for RF tethering. It is unique to the Britax and Sunshine Kids convertibles, and in some areas those seats are VERY rare. But the rest? Not good!

Normally, I wouldn't be surprised, either (since, like you said, only Britax and SKJP allow RF tethering), but this event was sponsored by...Britax. The techs weren't employed by Britax, but still...ya know?

Okay, that's really funny then! Guess Britax needs to be careful about what events they sponsor, or something!

I had another tech ask me about the d-ring and I told her it was perfectly safe...and she said well what does the car manufacture say about it.

That is an entirely valid question, actually. While I choose to tether my rear facing seats by use of a dring around my seat rails, I know that if I phoned up Ford or Mitsubishi and asked their opinion on doing so, I would likely be told no. Furthermore, these days with advanced airbags and restrictions about things touching seat backs, seat rails, etc, rear faced tethering is rather complicated in some cases.

I honestly didn't know how to answer the question either...we left it because I had never had experience tethering RF...and couldn't get the dring around the ford explorers front seat. (it was my second check and obviously we didn't go over this in class)
