Last minute selling of a seat that someone is coming to pick up soon. I'm a CPST now but not sure if I should let them in on that. Not because I don't want to help people (thats why i took the course!), but not sure on the whole liability thing, etc. I don't even know if they would want help but I kind of feel like its my responsibility now to at least offer? Would I need forms or anything? Make them sign something? Any tips greatly appreciated :)

Id keeps a hands off approach. Offer to show her how it installs in your car and watch her install it in her vehicle, but that's it. I wouldn't tell her Im a tech, liability almost bit me in the butt once... so Im extra careful now.
Id help, just not as involved as if at a check.

I offer to show people how it installs. Sometimes people want to try the seat out in their car before buying to make sure it fits and I usually just install the seat for them for that purpose because it's quicker.

When people buy seats from me I don't even mention I'm a CPST, let alone help them install. I figure that's just way too much liability, plus they usually know where I live. (I make them come to me. I'm lazy.)

you could do what techs do for private checks... tell her your a tech (show your credentials), then show her how to install it, uninstall it, and have her do it... with her being the last to install it, the last to touch it, and you simply INSTRUCTING, it gets rid of the liability.

See, I'm not worried about installation liability as much as with the seat itself. If the seat has a defect and something happens (or heck, even if the seat doesn't have a defect and something happens) and the person decides to sue someone, I think they'd be a lot more likely to include the certified professional who sold them the seat than the average run-of-the-mill-know-nothing parent.

I'm assuming 30mins is long gone?

Anyways, I didn't physically help when I sold a seat. But I did verbally remind the purchaser that if they were using the seat in FF'ing mode that she had to switch the UAS straps because I used the seat only in RF'ing mode (09 Britax). She had no idea she was suppose to switch the straps and had not done that on her other Britax seat that was being used ff'ing so I told her how and told her to read her manual!!! I also reminded her to top tether.
