At 6 in a backless?

We have 2 cars and in my car my 6 (just turned) and about to be 8yr old ride in Parkway SGs but right now those 2 and my youngest are all in sports and maybe once or twice a week my husband has to pick one of them up from a practice because I had to leave early to get another to their practice. Would you be comfortable with using a harmony backless with them for those short rides? Both would sit correctly and the trips would be about 5mi give or take. My 6yr old is right about 41lbs fully clothed, 8yr old is about 52lbs fully clothed...if that matters since they are both over the minimum.

Today one has practice at 5 and the other at 5:30 so my husband is picking up the oldest from that first practice for me so I was going to run to walmart and get it for him to use today otherwise I'm not sure yet how we'll be able to switch car seats, no where to really leave it today

I would very much prefer to see a newly-6yo in a highbacked booster, but a properly used (adequate belt fit and head support) backless is far from the worst thing I'm likely to see on any given day.

Is it more the age and maturity of most 6yr olds that makes you say that? Or his size? I ask only because he's very very mature for his age and a perfectionist, very safety oriented I guess you'd say? But he would sit correctly in it for sure, 100% of the time. There is also head rests in the car he'd be in too so he'd have that.

The Harmony fits even teeny kids scarily well (a 3y/30# kid *shouldn't* fit in a backless, IMO!) so I don't worry about that -- I guess I just like to see smaller younger kids a little more protected. Again, if you came through a checkpoint with a 6yo in a properly used backless, you'd be just fine. I'd probably applaud you. But if you're asking my personal opinion, I'd rather see a child that age and size in a highbacked booster.

Ok thanks :) I think for now just so we have it we'll grab the backless but I'm going to watch for a sale on the turbo booster to get that instead for him
