Are Custom Carseat covers safe???

Welcome and what cute girls you have!

Custom covers are considered to be an aftermarket product and therefore not allowed or recommended. The cover that comes with the carseat has been crash tested and is also flame retardent. If the slots and everthing don't line up correctly then it would cause interference with the harness, the cover might have more or less padding than what is needed. Hope this helps.

I'm sure someone will be along with more answers or links to previous posts. Night!

Jacqui is absolutely correct. Custom covers are considered aftermarket items. They might (maybe!) be safe, but we just don't know. The seat has not been tested with them AND they are generally not flame-resistant, which is important.

While they *might* not interfer with the carseats safety performance during a crash, they could void liability & could also be illegal if your state has a proper use clause. Add-on products have no oversight agency whatsoever to ensure that they meet safety standards & in fact there are no safety standards for them to meet. Nothing which is not crash tested with the carseat should be used while a vehicle is in motion -- it makes the child in that carseat a real life crash test dumm ... I'm sure you don't want to be the 1st to find out if these things are safe or not :( Plus, covers sold by carseat manufacturers (either with the carseat or as replacements) are flame retardent!

So Sorry, It is very frustrating isn't it...

I ended up buying the New Blues covers direct from Britax for the hot summer months. They are jean and 100% cotton.

I might jazz them up with some embroidery or patches or something....

When I talked to Britax this morning, they had the Ashley cover in stock, and said the new Mariposa with the butterflies would be available as an extra cover roughly 4 months after the seat is released.
