Asking for a friend. She is thinking of renting a 5 seat vehicle, and wants to know what might fit her seats. She doesn't want to have to rent a minivan or larger suv. She mentioned a jeep patriot or compass, a chevy malibu, or an elantra. Any others? She is in Cali.

Elantra, there is no way. You can barely fit 3 Radians across it.
I think the older Malibu is good for 3-across, but a rental fleet will have new vehicles, so that doesn't help. No idea about the jeeps. :shrug-shoulders:

Purely a guess, but I know Impalas are supposed to have a pretty wide seat. That might work. And Tauruses but I think it's only older Tauruses...

ETA: Don't think the Jeeps are a good plan. Some if not all of them have funky headrests. I had a Cherokee (?) a year or so ago for a rental car and 3-across took some effort, using a variety of seats.

I rented a 2010 Impala last year and had a Nautilus in the middle and there was SO much room on either side of it. I could see 3 full sized car seats fitting well in the back.

I wouldn't count on Jeeps fitting anything 3 across, I'm sure it's possible, but they have wonky headrests and angles... I wouldn't want to plan on it working and not have a backup plan, kwim. I also would try for an impalla or something that size.

I have no personal experience, but I would think an Impala would work. we used to have an Impala when we had 2 kids and there was lots of room between seats.

We have 2 Nautiluses and a keyfit in an '07 1/2 ton Chevy pickup, but I don't think that's on her list of rentable vehicles. :D
