Obviously the new recommendations on rear facing are great, but instead of:
"According to the new guidelines, kids should stay in rear-facing child seats until they're two years old, or have reached the height and weight limits advised by the seat's manufacturer."
Why didn't they say:
"According to the new guidelines, kids should stay in rear-facing child seats until they're AT LEAST two years old, or have reached the height and weight limits advised by the seat's manufacturer."
The quotes do indicate that kids should rear face as long as possible, but I suspect that will be lost on most parents, and people will blindly start turning their kids front facing at 2 instead of when they outgrow the rear facing capabilities of their seat. Sure that would be progress from today (and progress is good), but the simple addition of two little words might have made things even more clear. Or am I nitpicking.
I'm also saddened by reading comments on the articles about this at various places (not here obviously), and seeing the same old tired arguments that parents use to justify turning their children around early. This recommendation will help, but there is still a lot of ignorance and bias against rear facing to be overcome.
