Parents magazine ad

I was reading Parents magazine yesterday and there was an ad for the Radian 80. The top of the add says "the only seat you need". Umm, I haven't seen the Radian, but I thought it wasn't any different than the 65. The 80 won't really last that long, will it? Most kids will need a booster after the 80, won't they? This doesn't seem any different than the advertising for the AO.

I was just confused, I guess.

Nope, it is not the only seat you will ever need. Most kids will outgrow it by four feet to four feet three inches, so you'll need a booster for another 6-9 inches.

well technically you can use the Radian 80 over the top slots, and it is reinforced with steel (?) bars.

Technically you can use the Radian 65 above the top slots, too, not just the 80.

Even then, I do not see a child making it to 4'9" in either the 65 or the 80, even with shoulders over top slots. It just won't happen.

Anyone have a Radian and a child over 4'3 or so to try it out?

Just looking at the pic of the 80, I cannot see a child making it that far in the seat, My godson is 9yrs and 55lbs. He has his TB on the highest setting. There is NO WAY he would fit in the Radian 80 and he is nowhere near 80lbs.

I just don't see that happening.

Yeah, Russ (from SKJP) says that the Radian is designed for shoulders to go an inch over the top slots, and that 19 inches for torso height is the torso height of a 95th percentile 9yo boy. So he thinks it WILL fit the vast majority of big kids to 9 years old.

Maybe the only 'harnessed' seat you need? Then you can go straight to one of those Sunshine Kids seatbelt adjusters! (barf) They really should make a booster...

I think that was the sales line for the Century Next Step...the only seat you need after the infant seat, or something incredibly similar.

Hey, someone on the bbc board emailed SKJP and they are giving the Jon and Kate+8 family radians if DHC approves:D . In the email, the lady mentioned that they will have a booster coming out in the begining of 08! I can try and dig up that thread in a little bit.

Eta: found it!

I just measured my almost-8-yr. old son's torso, and he was right at 18" (and he is a TALL boy, 53.5 inches or 4'5.5", but all LEGS). Then I took him and sat him in his sister's Radian, and his shoulders are a full INCH, if not a bit more, above the top slots.

Dd5, the full-time occupant of the Radian, is a shorty at 41.5" with a 15" torso and in the next-to-top slots currently, but I'm thinking about moving them up soon. She *will* probably fit in this seat until age 7 or so.
