Need another Convertible

So, My 4 month old is getting to be quite heavy in the bucket. I'm on the prowl for a convertible. My 2 1/2 year old has been in a True Fit since around 8 months and we are very pleased with it.

I was going to go with another TF, but since it's been 2 years since I've researched seats I wanted to see if there was anything much better out since!

I love my True Fit Premiere :) But some other seats to look at are the Graco My Ride, and the Safety 1st Complete Air. The My Ride rear faces up to 40 pounds, but has a shorter shell than the other 2 on my list. The Complete Air also rear faces up to 40 pounds, but has a 40 inch height limit for rear facing (even though it has a much taller shell).

Truefits are still considered nice seats. :) Where they have fallen behind other convertibles is in the rearfacing weight limit - most newer convertibles are now 40#, and the truefit is still at 35#. Very long-torosed children may still last longer rearfacing in the truefit because it has a tall shell compared to some of the 40# RF convertibles, and the kid might outgrow the other seat RF by height before he outgrows the truefit RF by weight.

If you want to shop around a bit and see if you like something else better than the truefit that you have, the 40# RF seats are the graco myride, evenflo triumph 65 and momentum 65, safety 1st complete air, and Britax convertibles (roundabout55, marathon70, boulevard70, advocate70CS). ETA: forgot about the Radians too (any model; the 80SL and XTSL rearface to 45# and the 65SL to 40#).

(Incidentally, I'm assuming your 2.5 year old is still rearfacing, but if not then I'd probably pass the truefit down and get a forward facing combination seat for the 2.5 year old.)

Just curious, is your 2 year old RF or FF?

If he is RF, then great, if not, and you don't plan to turn him back to RF, I'd suggest passing the True Fit down to your baby and getting a FF seat for your older child.

Convertables on my love it list:

Radian XTSL (RF to 45lbs)
Safety First Complete Air (RF to 40lbs)
Evenflo Triumph 65 (RF to 40lbs, shorter shell, but easy no rethread harness)
MyRide 65 (fits littles well, but has deep sides, so harder to lift older kids up into it, this is one reason I personally don't care for it, but I know plenty of people who love it
True Fit Premier (same as your TF, but with an antirebound bar)

Combination seats- (FF only, harness to booster) We are considering the following for my 3 year old when we turn her forward facing:

Britax Frontier85
Recaro ProSport
Graco Nautilus

My 2 year old (29 months) is FF, my husband turned her seat around twice after me at about 25 months. I should probably turn her back around...

So, if I do turn her, get another TF (but a TFP this time) for my little one.

If she continues to FF, I've seen and heard great things on the Nautilus.

My 2 year old is just about 26-27 lbs and has been for a while. Weight is not a huge issue here, and neither is height, so I think she could rock the TF for a while longer RFing.

We also have a Ford expediton, only two children, so space isn an issue.
