Progressive won't cover car seats ???

I called to get our insurance all set for DH's new truck and asked about car seats. The lady told me they don't cover car seats since they are not permanently attached to the car. However, they will cover your radio if it gets stolen, since that can't be taken in and out of the car

I am thinking we might need to switch insurance carriers. There is no way we could afford to pay for 4 new car seats if anything were to happen.

It likely varies by state and the amount/type of coverage you're getting. But yeah, I'd try talking to someone else.

she probably thought you were asking if they got stolen, in which case no they wouldnt be covered but if you get in an accident that is totally different. My sister was recently in an accident and progressive didnt even question her when she said she needed 2 new seats, a booster and a convertible for her youngest, in fact they made her bring the used seats to them and then cut a check for them to her.

I will call back. I said "if something happens" so she may have taken that wrong. I do remember seeing on here that someone had a hard time getting them to cover seats though. I just hope the time doesn't come where I will have to find out for myself. We have been with them for quite a while now.

They replaced ours without hestitaion.. I had two Marathons and they had me choose what new seats I wanted and cut me a check. They came and picked up my old seats, had me cut the straps and keep the covers.

I was in a major crash (due to ice) that was unquestionably my fault, and Progressive replaced *8* seats. The only one they questioned was my uninstalled one in the back; the adjuster talked to legal and they decided to just replace all of them. The check they cut me was over 1k -- fronted to me before purchasing replacements. (Crashed seats were left in the totaled vehicle, minus covers and spare parts, which the adjuster had no problem with me pulling out when I got the rest of my stuff out of the van.) No restriction on replacing with the same seats, etc -- which I didn't.

Yes, they do. We had Progressive a few years ago when some dolt tried to switch lanes and dinged my bumper. We lived in a no-fault state so my insurance paid for all of my vehicle's costs - which included 2 carseats (one of which was Britax and didn't even "techincally" need to be replaced).

When I called Progressive and asked them the same thing they said this, "We don't typically, but I can't say we won't cover them. It honestly just depends on your caseworker at the time." So I'm not going to switch insurance companies because they may or may not cover car seats. Many other important things in regards to insurance coverage are what I take into consideration

Our insurance agent in our small town said he would without a doubt cover the car seats. But he is much more expensive than our current coverage who may or may not cover car seats. sigh

Progressive won't cover car seats ???
