a high back is usually better because it provided some SIP. I guess it depends on the person on when its "ok". for my kids they wont be in a backless until probably 9. I usually say to keep a child in a high back until they outgrow it then move on to a low back.

thanks! that is what I told my dh. He wanted to take a backless with our ds on a trip in December and I told him he'd have to take the HBB with him because it actually offers some SIP.

How old is your son and what does the trip involve? If I were flying with a kid over 6 years and 50 pounds, I'd possibly use backless if I knew what what vehicle it would be going in.
